Quick Answer

How much does Amazon FBA charge per sale?

Amazon FBA charges three main fees per unit. The referral fee is set by category: 15% covers most of them, Computers and Consumer Electronics are 8%, Automotive and Powersports is 12%, and Amazon Device Accessories is 45%. Some categories are priced in bands rather than at one rate, so Clothing and Accessories is 5% up to $15, 10% above $15 through $20, and 17% above $20. On top of that comes a fulfillment fee, which starts around $3.22 for a small standard unit and rises past $9.73 for oversize, plus monthly storage of about $0.87 per cubic foot, higher in the October to December peak. Category minimums and several other charges are not modeled here.

How to Use This Calculator

Estimate your Amazon FBA profit in under 30 seconds

Enter your sale price, product cost, and inbound shipping cost. Select your product category (for the referral fee) and FBA size tier (for the fulfillment fee). The calculator applies representative 2026 FBA fee tiers and adds the 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge that took effect April 17, 2026. Because Amazon's exact fulfillment fee depends on your item's price, weight, and dimensions, confirm it in Seller Central or type it into the optional exact-fee field for precision.

Use presets to quickly model common product types. Adjust storage cost for peak season (October-December) to see how it affects your margins.

Key Assumptions

Based on Amazon's published FBA fee schedule
  • Referral fee: Set by the category you pick, from Amazon's published schedule. Most categories are 15%; Computers, Consumer Electronics and Video Game Consoles are 8%; Amazon Device Accessories is 45%. Clothing, Grocery and Beauty apply a whole-price rate selected by the price band. Jewelry applies separate rates to portions of the price. Categories whose rule we cannot state precisely are left out of the list rather than approximated.
  • FBA fulfillment fee: Based on size tier and weight. The built-in tiers are representative 2026 standard-size estimates (about $3.22 small standard up to $13.74 medium oversize); confirm your exact fee in Seller Central or use the optional exact-fee field.
  • Fuel & logistics surcharge: Amazon added a 3.5% surcharge on FBA fulfillment fees in the US and Canada effective April 17, 2026. The calculator applies it on top of the fulfillment fee.
  • Monthly storage: $0.87/cu ft (Jan-Sep), $2.40/cu ft (Oct-Dec). Default uses non-peak rate.
  • Seller account: $39.99/month Professional plan not included per-unit (amortize separately).
  • Tax: Does not include income tax or sales tax.
  • Currency: All values in USD.
Referral percentages and size-tier fees reflect Amazon's published FBA schedule; the fulfillment tiers are representative estimates you should confirm in Seller Central for your exact item. Includes the 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge (effective April 17, 2026). Last reviewed June 2026. See our full Methodology.

Methodology

Transparent formulas you can verify

The Amazon FBA Profit Estimator computes estimated net profit using:

Net Profit = Sale Price - Referral Fee (Category % × Sale Price) - FBA Fulfillment Fee (base tier or your exact fee) - Fuel & Logistics Surcharge (3.5% × fulfillment fee) - Monthly Storage ($/cu ft × product volume) - Product Cost (COGS) - Inbound Shipping to Amazon

Profit margin = Net Profit ÷ Sale Price × 100

Fee-to-Revenue Ratio = Total Amazon Fees ÷ Sale Price × 100

Frequently Asked Questions

What fees does Amazon charge FBA sellers?
Amazon charges three main fees for FBA sellers: a referral fee (percentage of sale price, varies by category), an FBA fulfillment fee (based on product size and weight), and monthly storage fees (based on cubic footage). There may also be long-term storage fees for inventory stored over 365 days.
What is a good profit margin for Amazon FBA?
A commonly cited planning target is a 15-30% net margin after the fees modeled here. Below 10% leaves little buffer for price changes and fee increases. Products priced under $10 are very difficult to profit from due to the fixed FBA fulfillment fee.
How much does FBA fulfillment cost?
FBA fulfillment fees for standard-size items start around $3.22 (small standard, 1 lb or less) and rise with size tier and shipping weight. Since April 17, 2026 Amazon also adds a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on the fulfillment fee in the US and Canada. Because the exact fee depends on your item's dimensions and weight, confirm it in Seller Central; this calculator lets you enter the exact figure.
Do storage fees change during Q4?
Yes. Monthly storage fees increase significantly during October-December (peak season): $2.40 per cubic foot vs $0.87 for January-September. Plan inventory carefully to avoid high Q4 storage costs.
Does this calculator include the $39.99 monthly seller fee?
No. The Professional seller account fee ($39.99/month) is a fixed cost not tied to individual units. To include it, divide $39.99 by your total monthly units and subtract from per-unit profit.

How this calculator works

This calculator estimates your per-unit profit on Amazon FBA after the modeled Amazon fees. Referral fees depend on the selected category. This estimator applies either a flat rate, a rate selected by the price band the item falls into, or a rate to each portion of the price, as described in the category list. Category minimums are excluded. Fulfillment fees are a per-unit charge tied to product size and weight tier; the built-in tiers (about $3.22 for small standard up to the teens for oversize) are representative estimates, so confirm your exact fee in Seller Central or enter it directly. Since April 17, 2026 Amazon adds a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on the fulfillment fee in the US and Canada, which this calculator applies on top. Storage fees are charged monthly per cubic foot, with higher peak-season rates from October through December. The calculator subtracts all of these from your sale price along with your unit cost to show the estimated margin per unit sold.

Formula used
Per-unit profit = Sale price - Referral fee (% by category) - FBA fulfillment fee (base tier or your exact fee) - Fuel and logistics surcharge (3.5% of fulfillment fee) - Monthly storage allocation - Unit cost of goods

Assumptions

  • You are selling on Amazon.com (US marketplace) under the Professional selling plan ($39.99/month).
  • You ship inventory to Amazon fulfillment centers and Amazon handles pick, pack, ship, and customer service.
  • Your products are not subject to long-term storage surcharges (under 365 days in storage).
  • You are not paying separate inbound placement service fees on shipments.
  • The referral fee follows the category you select. Most categories are a single flat rate. Clothing, Grocery and Beauty apply one rate to the whole price, chosen by the band the price falls in. Jewelry is different again: it charges 20% on the portion up to $250 and 5% on the portion above, so its effective rate moves with the price.

Limitations

  • This calculator does not include the $39.99 monthly Professional selling plan fee, which is shared across all your sales.
  • It does not model FBA inbound placement service fees, which apply when sending inventory to a single Amazon fulfillment center rather than distributing.
  • Storage fees are calculated as a monthly average. Actual fees can spike from October through December (peak rate).
  • Returns and refund processing are not modeled. Amazon charges return processing fees on certain category returns.
  • Long-term storage surcharges (181+ days, then 365+ days) are not included.
