How much does it cost to sell on Etsy?
It depends on whether the order came through an Offsite Ad. On the US assumptions this calculator uses, a $35 item with $5 of buyer-paid shipping is a $40 order that incurs $4.25 in standard fees: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the $40, and payment processing of 3% of the $40 plus $0.25. That is 10.6% of the order. If the same order is attributed to Offsite Ads at 15%, Etsy adds $6.00 and the modeled fees rise to $10.25, or 25.6% of the order. Product, packaging and shipping costs are on top of that, and sales tax and any other applicable fees are outside this illustration.

Key Assumptions
- Listing fee: $0.20 per listing (Etsy standard rate as of March 2026)
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of item price + shipping charged to buyer
- Payment processing: 3% + $0.25 per transaction (US rate; varies by country)
- Offsite ads: 15% for shops under $10,000/year; 12% for shops over $10,000/year. Charged on the order total including shipping, and capped at $100 per attributed order
- Tax: Does not include income tax or sales tax
- Currency: All values in USD
Methodology
The Etsy Profit Calculator computes net profit using the following formula:
Profit margin = Net Profit ÷ (Sale Price + Shipping Charged) × 100
Transaction Fee Basis
Etsy's transaction fee applies to both the item price and the shipping amount charged to the buyer.
Offsite Ads
Etsy may automatically enroll shops in its Offsite Ads program. Shops earning under $10,000/year can opt out; shops over $10,000/year cannot.
When the fee applies, Etsy charges it on the full order total, item price plus the shipping you charged, and caps it at $100 per attributed order. That cap matters on high-value orders: at a 15% rate the cap binds once the order total passes $666.67, so a $1,005 order pays $100, not $150.75. Monthly Sales Volume here multiplies one single-item order, so the cap is applied per unit. A real multi-item order would be capped once across the whole order, which this single-item model does not represent.
What an Offsite Ads Order Actually Costs
Offsite Ads is the single largest swing in Etsy's fee stack, and it only applies to orders that Etsy attributes to one of its ads. The table below runs one hypothetical US order both ways so the difference is visible rather than averaged into a range.
| Hypothetical US order: $35 item + $5 buyer-paid shipping | No Offsite Ads attribution | 15% Offsite Ads attribution |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | $0.20 |
| Transaction fee: 6.5% of $40 | $2.60 | $2.60 |
| Assumed US processing: 3% of $40 + $0.25 | $1.45 | $1.45 |
| Offsite Ads | $0.00 | $6.00 |
| Total modeled Etsy fees | $4.25 | $10.25 |
| Fees as a share of total order revenue | 10.625% | 25.625% |
Product cost, packaging and the shipping you actually pay are on top of these fees, and sales tax and any other applicable charges sit outside the illustration. Shops billed at the 12% Offsite rate pay $4.80 on this order instead of $6.00. Whether you can decline the program at all depends on your trailing twelve-month revenue; our Etsy fees guide covers the attribution window and the opt-out rule, which is not a free choice for every shop.
Limitations
- Does not account for Etsy Plus subscription ($10/month)
- Does not include income tax, self-employment tax, or sales tax
- Payment processing rates vary by country
- Offsite ads fee applies only to ad-originated sales, and is modeled per single-item order
- Does not include Etsy Ads (promoted listings) budget
- Verify current rates on Etsy's official seller handbook
Frequently Asked Questions
How this calculator works
This calculator estimates your net profit per Etsy sale after the fees Etsy charges and the costs you incur to fulfill the order. Etsy charges four main fees: a flat listing fee, a percentage transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, payment processing fees that vary by country, and an optional offsite ads fee that is only charged when a buyer clicks through from an external ad. The calculator starts with the buyer-paid total (item price plus what the buyer paid for shipping), subtracts each fee in order, then subtracts your cost of goods, your actual shipping cost, and packaging cost. The result is an estimate of what you keep from the order before income tax.
Net profit = (Sale price + Shipping charged) - Listing fee - Transaction fee (6.5% of sale + shipping) - Payment processing - Offsite ads fee (if applicable) - Cost of goods - Actual shipping cost - Packaging costAssumptions
- You are selling in the US Etsy marketplace at the standard fee schedule.
- You are not enrolled in Etsy Plus or any other paid subscription that changes your fee structure.
- The sale is paid through Etsy Payments (the default for US sellers).
- You handle order fulfillment yourself and pay actual shipping out of pocket.
Limitations
- Etsy fees vary by country. International shops have different payment processing rates and currency conversion charges this calculator does not model.
- The calculator does not include sales tax. Etsy collects and remits sales tax on your behalf for buyers in most US states, but the gross 1099-K reported to the IRS still includes those amounts.
- It does not deduct income tax or self-employment tax from the net profit shown. Use the Self-Employment Tax Calculator for that estimate.
- Etsy occasionally runs promotional fee discounts, free listing campaigns, or offsite ads opt-out windows. These are not modeled.

Compare scenarios
Change the item price to compare outcomes. Scenarios A and B use the same engine as the calculator above.

Sensitivity to item price
How the net profit per item moves as this one input changes, holding everything else fixed.
The offsite ads fee (12-15%) applies only to orders that come from an offsite ad click; toggling it can flip a low-margin listing from profit to loss.
Worked example
$35 item + $5 shipping = $40 revenue. Etsy fees: $0.20 listing + 6.5% transaction ($2.60) + payment processing ($1.45) = $4.25. Minus $8 COGS, $4.50 shipping, $1 packaging → $22.25 net.
